Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe: A Detailed Look at the Collaboration

Jacquemus and Nike are back at it, and this time they’re unearthing a piece of sneaker history. The Parisian luxury brand has teamed up with the sportswear giant to reimagine the iconic Nike Moon Shoe, a legendary silhouette with a fascinating backstory. Revealed during Jacquemus‘ “LA CROISIÈRE” presentation, this collaboration is a fusion of retro appeal and high-fashion minimalism.

The History of the Moon Shoe

To understand the significance of this collaboration, you need to know the origin of the Moon Shoe. Created in 1972 by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, this was Nike’s first-ever shoe to feature the now-famous waffle sole. The story goes that Bowerman, looking for a way to improve traction for runners, poured rubber into his wife’s waffle iron, creating the distinctive pattern. The shoe earned its nickname from the unique tracks it left in the dirt, which were said to resemble the footprints of astronauts on the moon. Only about a dozen pairs were ever made for the 1972 Olympic trials, and a vintage, unworn pair famously sold at auction for over $437,000 in 2019. This collaboration marks the first time the shoe is getting a true retro release.

A New Era for a Classic Design

Jacquemus’ take on the Moon Shoe honors the original’s legacy while infusing it with a modern, elegant sensibility. The collaboration is expected to release in several colorways, including “Alabaster,” “Off Noir,” and “University Red.” The designs stay true to the original’s shape, featuring a simple nylon upper, thin midsole, and the signature waffle outsole.

However, Jacquemus’ touch is evident in the refined details. The shoes sport a vintage, pre-aged look with a slightly yellowed midsole, giving them a treasure-from-the-past feel. Subtle branding, premium materials, and special-edition lace dubraes elevate the sneaker from a simple reissue to a true fashion statement. The sleek, clean aesthetic aligns perfectly with Jacquemus’ minimalist philosophy.

Release Details and What to Expect

The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe collaboration is part of a larger collection of apparel and accessories. While a firm release date is still TBC, sources indicate a Holiday 2025 or Spring 2026 release window. The sneakers are rumored to retail for around $180, a surprisingly accessible price point for such a highly anticipated fashion collaboration.

This partnership is more than just a sneaker drop; it’s a testament to the power of merging high fashion with historical sportswear. By bringing back one of Nike’s most important and rarest silhouettes, Jacquemus is not only giving sneakerheads a chance to own a piece of history but also introducing this foundational design to a new generation of fashion enthusiasts.
