The Lexus IS has been a staple in the sport sedan segment for over two decades, known for its balance of luxury, reliability, and engaging performance. While some speculated its time was coming to an end, Lexus is proving the doubters wrong with a significant refresh for the 2026 model year. Instead of a full redesign, the new IS doubles down on its strengths, refining the formula that has made it a fan favorite.

Lexus has given the 2026 IS a “refreshed and refined” look, but it’s more than just a subtle tweak. The most notable change is the revised front fascia, which features a new grille design that is slightly shorter and wider. This change, along with newly styled headlights, gives the car a more aggressive and modern presence. At the rear, the F Sport trims get a new spoiler that improves aerodynamic performance. The car also gets new 19-inch lightweight aluminum wheels and new exterior color options, including the dynamic “Neutrino Gray” and “Wind.”
Inside, the 2026 IS receives a major update that addresses some of the previous model’s critiques. Lexus has done away with the controversial touchpad controller and replaced it with a more intuitive and driver-centric layout. The interior features a restyled instrument panel, center console, and trims, with a focus on high-quality materials.

The biggest upgrade is the new 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Lexus Interface multimedia system, which is now standard. It’s angled toward the driver for easier use and supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A matching 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster provides a configurable display. The cabin also gains new features like natural forged bamboo ornamentation, two new USB-C ports, and a relocated wireless phone charger for better accessibility.
For 2026, the Lexus IS is simplifying its lineup to focus on two core models: the IS 350 and the IS 300h hybrid. This means the popular IS 500 with its V8 engine has been discontinued. The IS 350 will continue to be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine, producing 311 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission for rear-wheel-drive models and a 6-speed automatic for all-wheel-drive variants.
