All-New Mercedes-Benz GLB Debuts with Striking Design and Massive MBUX Superscreen

Mercedes-Benz has pulled the covers off the all-new GLB, and it’s clear this compact SUV is ready to move well beyond its predecessor. The second-generation GLB is a compelling blend of the rugged, practical utility the model is known for, injected with a massive dose of cutting-edge technology and a dramatically redesigned cabin experience.

The headline news is unmistakable: the GLB’s interior has been revolutionized by a digital experience usually reserved for its larger, more expensive siblings.

The cabin of the new GLB is dominated by the MBUX Superscreen, an optional feature that completely transforms the dashboard. Moving beyond the connected dual-screen setup, the Superscreen houses three distinct displays under a single, seamless pane of glass:

  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver.
  • 14-inch central touchscreen infotainment system.
  • An additional 14-inch screen for the front passenger, which can be used for navigation, entertainment, or streaming.

This system runs on the new MB.OS architecture, ushering in the fourth generation of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). This isn’t just a bigger screen; it’s an intelligent, connected ecosystem featuring a Generative AI-powered Virtual Assistant that allows for more complex, multi-turn dialogues, making interaction with the vehicle more intuitive than ever before.

The tech upgrade also extends to the physical controls, where Mercedes-Benz has thoughtfully listened to customer feedback, bringing back rocker switches for cruise control and a roller dial for volume on the new steering wheel, replacing the often-maligned haptic buttons.

The new GLB is launching with a focus on electrification, offering options that prioritize efficiency and performance.

  • Fully Electric GLB (EQ Technology): Replacing the EQB, the new electric GLB models feature an 85-kWh usable capacity battery and a new 800-volt electric architecture. This setup drastically cuts down charging times, allowing for up to 260 kilometers (161 miles) of range to be added in just ten minutes at a DC fast charger.
  • Hybrid Models: Traditional GLB models are equipped with a 2.0L Inline-4 turbo engine paired with a mild-hybrid system featuring a 48-volt integrated starter-generator. This setup adds a boost of power (around 13 hp) for quick takeoffs and allows for energy recuperation, enhancing both performance and efficiency.

The GLB’s primary appeal has always been its incredible practicality for its size, and the new generation only improves this.

  • Seating: The GLB remains one of the only compact luxury SUVs to offer an optional third row, providing seating for up to seven passengers.
  • Cargo: With the rear seats folded down, the GLB offers substantial cargo volume, rivaling some SUVs in the class above it, making it ideal for families and adventurers.
  • Off-Road Capability: Models equipped with 4MATIC® All-Wheel Drive now feature a TERRAIN MODE and a “Transparent Bonnet” function, which uses the vehicle’s cameras to provide a virtual view under the front of the car, aiding maneuverability on rough surfaces.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLB marks a significant leap forward, perfectly marrying the high-utility design that made it popular with a luxurious, tech-forward interior that sets a new standard for the compact luxury segment.
