The future of autonomous transportation just took another exciting leap forward! Zoox, the self-driving subsidiary of Amazon, has officially begun offering robotaxi rides to the public in Las Vegas. This marks a significant milestone for the company and for the broader adoption of fully autonomous ride-hailing services.
For years, we’ve heard about the promise of self-driving cars – vehicles that can navigate our roads without human intervention, promising safer, more efficient, and potentially more accessible transportation. While many companies have been testing their technology, Zoox is now putting its purpose-built robotaxis into the hands of everyday riders in a major city.
Amazon.com Inc.’s autonomous driving unit Zoox has started offering rides to the public in Las Vegas, marking a first in the US for a purpose-built robotaxi with no driver controls’ will offer trips in and around the Las Vegas strip, initially for free, with rides summoned from a smartphone application and staff on hand to help with pick-ups and drop-offs. The company is also opening a waitlist for a similar service in San Francisco, where it’s been testing its robotaxi system, pending regulatory approvals.
