Lexus LS Six-Wheeled Minivan Concept Gallery

Lexus LS Six-Wheeled Minivan Concept Gallery

Lexus has always been the champion of quiet, refined luxury. But at the recent Japan Mobility Show, the brand tore up the rulebook, revealing a radical concept that has stunned the automotive world: the Lexus LS Concept, reborn as a gargantuan, six-wheeled ultra-luxury minivan.

The message is clear: the future of the Lexus flagship is no longer about the “Luxury Sedan” we know, but about “Luxury Space.” And Lexus is willing to add a whole extra axle to achieve it.

The Most Dramatic Profile in Luxury

The exterior design of the LS Concept is purely architectural. It trades the sleek curves of a traditional sedan for a towering, slab-sided profile, necessary to create the immense interior volume. But this is no mere cargo van; it’s a technological statement:

The Six-Wheel Shock: The most audacious feature is the triple-axle, six-wheel configuration. Lexus designers have explained this wasn’t just for shock value; the use of smaller wheels and an extra axle allows for minimal wheel arch intrusion into the cabin, maximizing floor space and enhancing ride stability and comfort for VIP passengers.

Illuminated Sculpture: The front end reinterprets the signature Lexus spindle grille entirely through integrated, dazzling LED lighting. Sharp lines and edges are accentuated with light, giving the massive vehicle a futuristic, almost sci-fi appearance.

Seamless Access: Large, power-operated sliding doors grace the side, opening to reveal a cavernous, low-slung cabin designed for unhindered entry and exit—a crucial detail for a chauffeur-driven vehicle.

A First-Class Suite on Wheels

If the exterior is radical, the interior is pure sanctuary. Lexus has created a rolling lounge where every passenger is treated like a head of state.

Lounge Seating: The cabin is designed to accommodate up to seven people, but the luxury focus is clearly on the second and third rows. The individual second-row seats can not only recline almost fully into VIP lounge chairs but can also swivel to face the rear passengers for an intimate conversation setup.

Nature Meets Tech: Luxury is delivered through warm, sustainable materials. The cabin features hand-carved bamboo accents and privacy screens that manage the amount of light entering, creating a calming, indirect ambient glow. Dual panoramic glass roof panels stretch the length of the ceiling, ensuring the space is always airy and bright.

The Pilot’s Cockpit: Up front, the driver faces a minimalist cockpit featuring a yoke-style steering wheel and a cascade of digital displays. This setup hints at advanced steer-by-wire and possibly next-generation autonomous driving technology, designed to make the chauffeur’s job as smooth as possible.

Why the Radical Shift?

Lexus’s pivot is a direct response to global market trends. The traditional luxury sedan (the original LS) is struggling against the rising dominance of SUVs and ultra-luxury MPVs (like Lexus’s own LM) in key Asian markets where being chauffeured in supreme comfort is the ultimate status symbol.

By reinventing the “LS” as “Luxury Space” on a unique, space-maximizing six-wheeled platform, Lexus is making a bold play to redefine its flagship. While this specific concept is not confirmed for production, it serves as an undeniable window into the brand’s future direction—one that prioritizes serenity, space, and a technological spectacle unlike anything else on the road.
